When was the first fan tribute created for a television show? I don’t know. They bring joy and emotion to those who make and watch them. Usually they’re a combination of video and audio to create the most immersive experience. Sliders is no different as there are several of them out there, showing that the series was more popular than most think. In many cases Sliders is one of the benchmarks for cult scifi. It contains a hardcore dedication from fans.
Looking at it from a corporate perspective, one would tend to believe it would entice the audience to watch the show again as long as it doesn’t show lengthy dialogue and scenes. They shake everyone up who were and are giant fans of Sliders and other shows as well. My first tribute was to Sliders, specifically for the petition to bring back the show. It would only make sense to add such a video to give the viewer nostalgia and hopefully a good response. Whether it be visiting a website or signing a petition.
Even a poorly edited and low resolution video makes excitement. I did however, come in contact with a fan that wanted a higher resolution version of what someone made so so many years ago. In fact the music was used from another fan on their favorite tv show tribute. Everything tends to overlap one another in the tribute community. The fan requested a remake of the tribute by Alias Jane Doe on Youtube. It took nearly 70 video clips arranged in a particular order for Sliders. Thankfully the small clips all came from the Pilot episode as it would have taken much longer to recreate. I went back and cut them from a better quality source (DVD) and inserted a better sound quality of the music they used.
I tried to add the cherry on top which is an Artificial Intelligence rendering upscale of the video to make it even more clear. Currently there isn’t an HD version of the show out there. The original fan tribute was in 240p, quite low but yes still enough to garner attention. As of making this post the original has nearly 63,000 views. Potato quality? Yes. But sometimes that’s all you need to make a difference.
You can see minor differences as far as some timing to the music but overall I’d say my re-creation is 98% accurate. It’s called “Sliders: At the Beginning”. So here’s the fan tribute which took me several hours to recreate. Hopefully it brings you as must joy as the one who originally edited it. Which I must admit the editing was jumping all over the place and difficult to recreate at times. But does it really matter? Enjoy.
