“Where did you get that!?” – John Rhys-Davies

The Fanboy Expo was the final convention John Rhys-Davies attended before the 2023 actors/writers strike. The episode Prince of Wails features the funny tidbit of Arturo’s double “Sheriff Arturo” promoting his book “Everything I Say Is Right”. It’s an alternate take on Rush Limbaugh’s book “See, I Told You So”. I decided I wanted to wear it to the Fanboy Expo convention in Knoxville, Tennessee with John Rhys-Davies in attendance. After all that’s the only reason I was there, to see John. I found one of @DBHughes94’s original uploads of the book cover. It was a small resolution of 318×375. Using the new Topaz AI software I was able to upscale the image to a larger resolution. I did however have to recreate all of the text, lines, background and sticker in Photoshop. I had to do a bit of tinkering for the face as well.

At the time of the convention John Rhys-Davies chuckled at the first sight of my shirt. He mentioned his daughter needs a shirt like that, but I soon gave him a journal version. I didn’t realize a selfie was an option, and they took cash only. I was short on cash so I didn’t even mention the notion to get one. However he insisted on photos with me and graciously gave me $400 worth of free selfies. I delivered the Bring Back Sliders petition to him and he autographed some of my Everything I Say Is Right photos. I done some studio photos with him but the candid versions at the table in my opinion are the best and most genuine.

He also did a video with me of the bit of how he’s right. I first assumed it was for Instagram but much more likely for his daughter. Wouldn’t any parent want to say something like that? Maybe he’ll give my journal of Everything I Say Is Right to her as a little reminder. The Fanboy Expo ran from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. I later realized he stayed till nearly 7:15 p.m. to meet fans. I don’t think the average celebrity or even ordinary citizen would work over that long for someone. He didn’t have to, but he did.

He often talks about how conventions have helped him to love people. Earlier on in his career he had a different view of conventions and thought everyone were just a bunch of Captain Kirks who didn’t have a life. He’s found out that film makes an incredible impact on people. They mention to him how the films and TV shows bring back fond family memories. Children watch them with their parents even when they are terminally ill. The films hold a special part in their heart and harbor memories of the joy they knew with their loved one.

His agent didn’t have any photos of Sliders and John soon realized that too. I was able to meet and email his agent variations of the image and a link to other Sliders photos on this site. Rather than holding on to the large image myself I wanted to share it to the entire Sliders community. It would be a good idea for a photo, wallpaper, shirt, Apple Watch background, or just a comedic gesture. I again want to acknowledge @DBHughes94 for that small image. Some of the smallest things make all the difference. Whether it be for an image or a selfie.
