The Sliders found themselves on many bad worlds. I’ll countdown the top 5 worst worlds to live in that were the main setting in Sliders episodes.
Honorable Mention
Slidecage – Season 4, Episode 9 “Slidecage”
It’s a claustrophobics nightmare. An endless maze of corridors is your home… for the rest of your life. The Slidecage is dark, dingy, and the air is filled with a metallic taste. Kromaggs and Humans wage an endless battle while survival is the primary key. Forget about sunlight, you cannot go outside because the toxic air will kill you. Think you can enjoy a nice meal? Think again, all the food is dispensed and tastes like artificial chicken. In the impossible chance people can escape from the Slidecage you will be left there alone with Jules and Thomas to play a never ending match of checkers. With an outsiders view the Slidecage may not seem too bad. But spend enough time in this dark abyss and I imagine it would be a thousand times worse than cabin fever.
5. Martial Law World – Season 2, Episode 2 “Time Again and World”
What’s the constitution? That’s the reaction you’ll be getting from the locals here. On Martial Law World a cop is on every street corner, America’s Constitution is banned. No Bill of Rights either, say goodbye to free speech, freedom of religion, right to the press, you name it. You can be arrested for anything without question. Here you live in constant fear and are uncertain of what lies next. Your rights can and will be taken. America here is only a mere shadow of what it was. With rights and vital important documents being kept secret, its only a short matter of time before this America turns into a Nazi Germany.
4. Communist World – Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot”
Comrade, “serve the state, and feed the people because the individual is evil”. Similar to Martial Law World, on Communist World you better bet your red bottom dollar your freedoms are extinct here. America was conquered by Russia and communism is now the norm. You can be grabbed off the street and disappeared by the military without question. Question them too much and you may find yourself in front of a firing squad. Real patriots live underground determined to make an uprising. Live free or die. This would be a frightening world to live in, with warfare to strict curfew one’s sanity would be at stake. Long story short, expect anything.
3. Zombie World – Season 3, Episode 19 “Sole Survivors”
It only takes one bite. Get infected by a zombie here and you’ll have glowing green eyes, infection, and a taste for blood that won’t go away. If you’re lucky to escape the zombies you’ll be constantly on the outlook with loss of sleep. You’ll need that extra night light to repel them too. In this environment you’re a scavenger and nomad constantly on the run. If you’re lucky you might find a doctor among the handful of healthy people still alive. As long as you can find some food, a means of self defense and a few uninfected people you can survive Zombie World. But being constantly on the run and in fear of your life is no way to live.
2. Human Game World – Season 4, Episode 12 “The Dying Fields”
First impressions aren’t always correct. This place looks like the Garden of Eden at first glance, but look deeper and there’s serpents everywhere. Human Game World is used as a human hunting training ground by the Hu-maggs (part Human, part Kromagg). It’s war. You’ll be constantly on the defensive, you are the hunted and looked upon as an animal. If you can find a human friend they will probably be hunted down soon so don’t let your friendship grow close. You’ll be continually promised freedom by the Kromaggs if you survive the hunt. Here it’s life or death. This would be a really difficult world to live in. It’s constant warfare that would wage a huge psychological toll on anyone. It’s hard enough on combat troops with just a few tours of duty, imagine living your entire life under 24/7 warfare.
1. Earth 113 – Season 2, Episode 9 “Invasion”
It’s not a dream. Earth 113 is a dark disorienting torture prison camp governed by Kromaggs. Your sleep will be constantly disrupted while you are interrogated on every level. Nothing is as it seems either. You may see what is labeled as your real mother or father but it will be a mere trick from the Kromaggs. If you’re not thrown into a cell you will be put to good use in a slave labor camp. Cooperation is essential or your eyes may be on a Kromagg’s dinner table. Prison camps are frightening enough but imagine staring down the ugly looking freaks called the Kromaggs. This world is bound to break even the most courageous individual. Words do this world no justice. It’s your worst nightmare.
